| Babar
is a young male adult (about 1.5 years old)
Pinto Anatolian Shepherd. He was hit by
a car and left on the highway until a State
Trooper came along to help him out. During
his leg surgery, the vet removed a lot of
buckshot and a .22 caliber slug, so poor
ole Babar had been shot at several times
on top of the hit and run. Despite all of
this, he is the sweetest ole guy you'll
ever meet. He does not seem to have issues
with anything - cats, pups or other dogs.
As with all Anatolians, they are a guardian
dog and he will need to be placed with some
one familiar with the breed or willing to
learn about them. Anatolians are independent
dogs and are not people pleasers. They were
bred to live by themselves with flocks of
animals to guard them, hence very independent
yet very loving. They do not make good command
trained dogs like German Shepherds. Babar
is like a big couch potato and very friendly
but as he learns his new home, he will most
likely guard it and have to be introduced
to strangers. Babar was in rehab until about
08/01/04 when the pins were removed from
his leg but has recovered from his injuries
and is completely healthy. Babar is hearing
impaired. He seems to have a small amount
of hearing in one ear but his foster mom
has been using hand signals to give him
commmands. He is considered deaf. Babar
is fairly compliant and more than anything
just wants to be with you or another dog.
Because of his hearing problem, it does
mean some one will have to invest more time
and energy into his life to train him. He
most likely was shot and hit by a car because
he didnt have the ability to hear any warning.
He is completely housebroken and needs another
dog to keep him company. If you would like
more information please send an email to
contact@dogsonly.org. You can complete an
online adoption application by clicking
the links at the top or bottom of this page.
Babar is going to make some one a great
pet. He does require a 6 foot fenced yard
to keep him safely at home. We will only
adopt to out of State homes with an approved
home visit and vet reference. Babar is not
a working or livestock experienced guy so
he will be adopted into a companion home
only. You can come and meet Babar at the
WLR Petco on Chenal Parkway across from
Target and Home Depot every Sat and Sun
from 1-5.
