Marley a.k.a Little Bit is a male neutered 1 year old beautiful Black Labrador Retriever who was given as a "gift" to a family that was in no way prepared for what was about to happen.
At first Marley was tiny, cuddly, sweet, soft, and wooed his way into every ones heart with oodles of puppy breath and little kisses, but the peace and serenity was short lived. In no time at all, Marley grew into a big ball of high energy, and typical of his breed, Marley soon came to resemble an out of control Union Pacific locomotive.
Marley is a handsome young fellow, and is charming and smart with enough energy to keep you busy all day, and enough snuggle power to keep you warm all night. Good natured and alert, he will make a great companion for running, hunting, hiking, or park play. In fact Marley would love to do it all every day.
Marley is a big guy but also very friendly and eager to learn more obedience skills. Little Bit/Marley plays well with other dogs and is usually tolerant of household cats. His family can no longer take care of him, and so he is looking for a more suitable forever home. Due to his large size, it is not recommended that he be adopted to a home with small children.
Marley is going to require a home with a fenced yard and guardians with a work and travel schedule that will allow for time to spend together.
Although a home with a fenced yard would be best, he might be allowed to roam on larger lots once he receives more obedience training. A home in which his guardians are experienced with dogs like Marley, or who would be willing to take him for obedience training is very important. He is going to need ample opportunities for exercise and daily activity and of course lots of affection. Under no circumstances should Marley be left chained alone outside!
Marley is cheerful, very playful, and smart. However he is mostly untrained which means he can seem like a trouble-maker to the inexperienced eye. He is very alert and eager to learn - just looking for the right person to spend time training him! He acts like a big jock with other dogs but remains playful and shows no food aggression. He seems to love people very much and does appreciate a tummy rub and personal attention.
Marley loves to tromp through the woods, loves playing with other dogs, and especially loves to eat. He also loves food treats and has shown that he will happily respond to commands to receive an award. A ride in the car is always welcome.
At his age it should come as no surprise that he does not like visiting the vet or wearing an anti-lick collar.
Little Bit/Marley is still very young and acts like a puppy who doesn't realize how big he is! He loves to chase and pounce and might scare small children, so we recommend that he be placed with a family with older kids or with very experienced dog owning parents who can help him to behave appropriately around smaller children. He will happily perform for food treats.
Marley's adoption fee is $75. Marley is an independent rescue effort and so may not be attending the DogsOnly adoption showings at the WLR on across from Target and Home Depot from 1:00 to 4:00.
If you think enthusiastic high energy fun is a good thing, and would like to learn more about this wonderful canine companion, you are invited to send an email to his rescuer at email@example.com or complete an online adoption application by clicking the orange colored text links at the top or bottom of this page.
Due to time restraints, we are not able to accept phone calls outside of our showing times at (Sat & Sun 1-4), but we always try and answer all emails within 24 hours. All of our young and adult dogs require a 2 week home visit before finalizing the adoption process. This is to help ensure it is a good match for all involved without making a final commitment. Puppies are not available to go on home visits. All of our rescues are in private homes and not available to be visited outside of showing times.

All DogsOnly foster homes work with our rescues to ensure they are crate trained and most are also housetrained. None of our fosters have cats in their homes so we can only make our best guess as to how our rescues would do with cats. We rescue from high kill shelters and once accepted into our program, none of our rescues are euthanized. We provide for all their vet care, socialization and training until an appropriate home can be found.
DogsOnly relies solely on donations and is a 501(c)3 Humane Society. Our mission is to rescue dogs that most other groups are not interested in due to their size, breed, age, health or other various reasons, and to provide education resources for dog owners and those with an interest in the wellbeing of dogs. DogsOnly believes that no dog should be left behind.
Thank you for your interest in rescue and in saving the life of a dog. Every day in the United States, 11,000 dogs die.
