Sampson

DogsOnly and other rescue organizations are often rebuked for not offering the dogs we rescue, rehabilitate, and offer for adoption as “Free To Good Home”. “If you're so anxious to find homes for these pets," we're told, "you should just give them away." This attitude makes us shudder. These small fees in no way begin to cover the cost incurred for medical treatment and rehabilitation of the companion canines we rescue and adopt out. Yes, we're anxious to find homes for our animals--GOOD homes. And some people who take free pets do provide wonderful homes. However, frequently--much too frequently!-- DogsOnly is called in to rescue former "free to good home" canine companions, and Sampson is another example of how things can go wrong, very wrong, when a canine companion is released to a new guardian without an adoption fee.

Given away for free as a small puppy, Sampson was at first a source of joy and entertainment for a family, and especially the children. However, most people unaccustomed to raising a small puppy don’t at first realize that they will have to deal with crying, the challenge of house training, feeding, constant demands for attention, and the significant expense of food and medical needs. I short, raising a puppy can often be a different kind of hell. Others are deliberately callous in taking a puppy into their homes when offered the opportunity to take ownership for free. These heartless individuals want a puppy, but only as long as it remains cute and causes no interruptions to their home lives. Sampson was a victim of the latter situation. Taken home as a plaything for the kids, he was soon summarily dumped in a remote part of the countryside, where he was ill equipped and too young to survive alone.

Sampson

Fortunately for Sampson, a kind Samaritan came upon this lost and frightened puppy and took him home for a good feed, clean water, and oodles of care and attention. Sampson turned out to be a happy and playful little Labrador Retriever mix pup who loves to play in the water and hang out with his best new friends. All he wants is a permanent home and to be part of a loving and caring family. If you believe that you can give Sampson the permanent home and care he deserves you are invited to come and get to know him a little better. Sampson is an independent rescue effort but he may occasionally be available to meet at the DogsOnly adoption showings at Petco in West Little Rock on Chenal Parkway across from Target and Home Depot every Saturday and Sunday from 1-4. Please call or send an email to Contact@DogsOnly.org before coming to visit Sampson so that we can make arrangements for him to be at the showing for you to meet. You are also invited to click the orange links at the top or bottom of this page to complete an online adoption application. Sampson's rescuer will be in touch to answer all of your questions about this wonderful canine companion and to help you to decide if you and Sampson are right for each other.

If you don’t find that special companion you are looking for in the DogsOnly rescue, rehabilitation, and re-home program then please visit Last Chance Arkansas or one of the many other central Arkansas rescue organizations to save a rescued canine companion.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL ADOPTIONS REQUIRE SECURE FENCING. THIS COMPANION IS NOT SUITABLE AS A WORKING LIVESTOCK GUARDIAN DOG. COMPANION HOMES ONLY PLEASE.
